Be Aware of What Your are Teaching Your Kids – They are Watching and Learning
Surely we all know that our young children are like sponges, absorbing and learning from everything we do.
But, do you ever stop to consider just how much we are teaching them for better worse?
Are we teaching them to be polite? To treat others well? Are we teaching them proper grammar; that school is important?
That we are what we eat? That exercise is important?
That we should be saving and not spending everything we have?
My youngest son who is not quite two, now repeats the last word of every sentence we say to him. It makes me very aware of how much he is learning from me and how carefully he observes me.
If I take out a large mixing bowl and a spoon, he is quickly at my side, saying “bake, bake.”
I wonder though, do we truly take care in what we are teaching our children? Did we learn any lessons from the Great Depression that saving is important? That we may not always have what we did before? That material goods are not as important as we once thought?
I know my grandparents knew these things. Is it our turn to teach it to a new generation? Will we take the lesson to heart? Will they?
Just saying . . .
