Jammin’ for Julian II – 5 Local Charities to Benefit

Last year, I was fortunate enough to be part of an amazing fundraiser.

My son’s classmate in pre-school, Julian Dunn was diagnosed with a brain cancer, and the fundraiser was organized to assist the family.

The best part was that the fund raiser was organized around dozens of children ranging from 3 years old through teen agers who came together to use their musical talents to put on a concert to help this young boy.

The energy level last year was palpable, and even more so when we realized that Julian was drawing energy from being there surrounded by so many who had come to help him.  My backstage experience readying the children to go on stage was incredible as I watched nervous young children transform to accomplished performers when they stepped on staging awing the crowd with their prowess.

But just raising money for their medical needs was not enough for this family.  In getting to know his family, I learned that they hoped to turn this in to an annual event to benefit other Orange County families in need.

Julian has completed all 55 rounds of chemo and has survived his brain tumor.

This year, his family is honoring its commitment to continue Jammin’ for Julian to help others by donating the proceeds to Kristie’s Foundation, Red Wagon Foundation, Beckstrand Cancer Foundation, Miracles for Kids and Young Singers of Orange County

Several of last year’s performers are back to participate again, including Samantha Smith who started a non-profit organization last year after performing in the concert last year.

Also, back again is Umi Garrett an amazing 9 year-old piano player who brought the house down last year with her amazing ability.  She is flying back from an international concert tour the day of the benefit.

Jammin for Julian II is being held on May 16, 2010 at St. Mark Presbyterian Church – 2200 San Joaquin Hills Road, Newport Beach, CA 92660.  The concert begins at 4:00 pm, and there is a suggested donation of $15.  Checks should be made payable to http://gowstakeout.com/tag/snake-soup/ Red Wagon Foundation.

I am pleased to be assisting again this year and look forward to another amazing experience helping this wonderful family as it continues to create something very special in our neighborhood.

So, please come join us as we raise money to help our neighbors in their time of need.
