Why Doesn’t He Quit?

“Today’s Uncle Angel’s Bday.”

“When is he coming home?”

Memorial Day

“Not for another year.”  So started the conversation with my son.

“Why doesn’t he quit and get another job if the one he has keeps him away from his family for so long?”

Such a simple question isn’t it?  And, yet such a hard one to answer.

“He’s in the Navy, and he is away from us and overseas to protect us and make sure that we are safe.”

“Could he die?”

“He could, but I think he’ll be okay.”

“So, he’d rather die than have us die?”

“Yes, he would!”

So, while all of us have the opportunity to enjoy our backyard bbqs and a day off of work, I want to make sure that my children remember those who serve and protect, those who are away from us this long weekend or the whole year, those who have come before them and who have given us our American way of life.

Remember those who serve and have served as you celebrate your freedom this weekend.
